Pre-Law
Why Choose Pre-Law?
At Ferris State University every attempt is made to assist students in a realistic preparation for the study of law. The Pre-Law program helps students choose courses that will satisfy their general education requirements as well as prepare them for law school. Advisors can assist students regarding proper course selection, preparation for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and with the application process. Early and continuous contact with the pre-law advisor can be a real asset in choosing a correct major and professional law track.
Get Accepted to Law School
Admission to law school generally requires the student to have achieved a bachelor?s degree and maintain at least a 3.25 GPA, and achieve above average scores on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Pre-Law is not a bachelor's degree and will not qualify the student for Law School admission. Since law involves every area of life, law schools have no specific preparatory law curriculum. Consequently, Pre-Law students may choose from a wide array of bachelor's degree programs. It is best to select a bachelor's degree that either teaches about the type of law they want to practice or that will provide them access to the career they want if they do not achieve entry to law school.
Consultation with their Pre-Law advisor will help students make the most appropriate choice of bachelor's degree. In order to make satisfactory progress toward a bachelor's degree, students should select the bachelor's degree that is right for them during their first year in college. Students are encouraged to participate in debate, forensics, student government and publications as productive extracurricular activities.
