The first semester of a year-long sequence in introductory biology designed for the science major and as a prerequisite for advanced biology courses. The topics include an introduction to scientific thinking, ecology, Mendelian genetics, evolution, and the diversity of the biological kingdoms, with concentrated study of cell theory and cell structure, the Monera, Protista, Fungi and Plantae. Laboratory exercises are designed to enhance the lecture material with hands-on experiences. Designed for students in science baccalaureate degree programs.
