Why Choose the Community Studies Minor?

The Community Studies minor will enable students to become better informed about the urban and suburban environments where they are most likely to work and live.  Suburbs and urban areas are linked.  Urban environments are in a process of rebound and the benefits of urban community living need to be clarified to overcome superficial negative attitudes.  The Community Studies minor crosses social science disciplines to establish a more comprehensive understanding of community evolution in the United States.

Admission Requirements

The Community Studies minor is open to any student admitted to Ferris State and pursuing a baccalaureate degree except those pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration.  The minor is designed to complement any other Ferris major program.

Graduation Requirements

An academic minor may only be awarded upon completion of a baccalaureate degree at Ferris.  This minor requires a minimum of 18 credits with a minimum 2.0 grade average in the courses comprising the minor.

Also, 50 percent of the credits for a minor must be taught by Ferris State University.
