An introduction to the cultural heritage and intellectual contribution of African Americans from the colonial era to the present. Contributions in the performing arts (music, dance, theater), visual arts (painting, sculpture, crafts, folk art, photography, film, fashion design), literature, religion, and culture will be explored as a means to understand changing social conditions affecting African Americans within the United States.
