Medical Biochemistry (PHCH 320)
Considers the physical; chemical properties of biological molecules, describes bioenergetics, and details enzyme structure, function, kinetics, and regulation. Metabolic pathways involving the various categories of biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids) are covered in depth with emphasis placed upon the interrelationships particularly as they pertain to the human system. Genetic abnormalities, the biochemical basis of disease in general, and the utilization of biochemistry in diagnosis are stressed. Pre-Requisites:CHEM 322. Typically Offered Fall, Summer
