Teaching Majors and Minors for Elementary Education Majors
The Elementary Education program requires the completion of two elementary education teaching minors or one elementary education teaching major in addition to a planned program to fulfill the subject area requirements of the program. Students may choose from the subject areas of biology, mathematics, social studies, English, language arts, and early childhood. Elementary education teaching majors are only available in the subject areas of biology, mathematics, and social studies. The early childhood minor is an optional minor and is in addition to the subject area major or minors required.
See Elementary Education, Bachelor of Science for additional program details.
The elementary education teaching English minor is only recommended for those who wish to teach in the higher-level elementary and/or middle school grades. Students should consult with an advisor to determine if the English minor is appropriate for their career goals.
You cannot have a language arts teaching minor with this English teaching minor.
A 3.0 GPA must be obtained in all required courses, a minimum of C in any individual course (or transfer equivalent) within the minor, and a minimum of B in ENGL 150 and ENGL 250 (general education requirements or their transfer equivalents).
