Why Choose Energy Systems Engineering?

Are you concerned about the future of energy resources and its availability? Do you want to be part of the solution to our energy needs? Are you a problem solver?

The Energy Systems Engineering program prepares students for a broad range of occupations and challenges. The program begins by building a strong foundation in math and sciences. Students then take courses in the basics of engineering and energy before selecting a pathway for the junior and senior years. Paths are: Building Energy Systems, Energy Generation and Distribution Systems, and Alternative Energy systems.

Career Opportunities

The Energy Systems Engineering degree prepares students to work for utilities, government agencies, architectural-engineering firms and businesses, and industry. The primary job will be to solve energy related problems. They may work in an office or out in the field. They will be designers, consultants and system engineers. While the job titles are diverse, all of these are related directly to energy production, control, management, etc. Many of these positions require experience to achieve all qualification requirements.

Admission Requirements

Students entering the program should have a MATH ACT of 26 or better (Composite ACT of 19) and pre-calculus or high school calculus, and a high school GPA of 2.75.

Graduation Requirements

The Energy Systems Engineering program at Ferris leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduation requires a minimum 2.0 GPA in major classes and overall. Students must complete all general education requirements as outlined on the General Education website.
