MKTG 339 - Visual Merchandising

A rare hybrid learning opportunity that will prepare you for an internship by enabling practical application of the merchandising principles for a specific retail trade sector. The first seven weeks will identify the organizational and responsibilities of merchandising by reviewing procedures in planning, sourcing, and controlling inventory (model stock planning, mark-up planning, unit control systems) for profitable management of trade operations. You will gain a basic understanding of purchase terms, pricing (mark-up and mark-down), turnover, and open-to-buy. The second seven weeks will enable hands on experience in merchandise selection and presentation. You will work on a small project with a sector specific professional that will allow you to put into practice merchandise planning as related to brand image, sales, and aesthetics with an emphasis on profitability from a managerial perspective. Typically Offered Spring.
