Introduction to basic concepts underlying computerized Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to the various social sciences. An overview of GIS principles and practical social science applications in the analytic use of spatial information. Topics covered include: basic cartographic concepts, spatial databases, GIS analysis of social needs and services, spatial queries, spatial analysis, data capture and acquisition, and mapping with GIS.
