PSYC 335 - Police Psychology


This course will cover issues focusing on psychological issues inherent to all aspects of police/investigative work and administration. Students will be prepared to apply psychology within law enforcement and the legal system at large to diffuse potential conflicts and will gain a comprehensive understanding about police administration and policies on topics such as police personnel selection, instruction, and training. This course will prepare the student to apply psychological theory in a wide variety of settings like forensic assessment, clinical treatment and risk assessment procedures. Theories of criminal behavior will be covered. Specific attention is given to particular areas of concern surrounding violence and aggression, sex offences and the role of substance abuse in criminal behavior and the psychological aspects of working within a police agency. This course meets General Education requirement: Self and Society. Typically offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
