MECH 340 - Statics-Strength of Materials Statics and strength of materials is a part of physics known as mechanics: forces, components, resultants, equilibrium, friction, centroids, and stress/strain relationships. Dynamics will be introduced. Covers strength of materials; the concepts of stress and strain, axial stress and deformation, thermal stress and deformation, stress concentrations, factor of safety, torsional stress and deformation, beam stresses, combined stress, riveted joints, welded joints, and Mohr’s circle. Typically Offered Fall, Spring, Summer Level: UG Credit Hours: 4
Prerequisite (PHYS 211 /D- Or PHYS 241 /D-) And (MATH 120 /D- Or MATH 126 /D- Or MATH 216 /D- Or MATH 220 /D- Or S12/580 Or A02/26) MECH-240-199308
