ARTH 250 - Greek & Roman Art/Archaeology This course examines the material, visual, and artistic culture of ancient Greece and Rome. The Greeks and Romans created monuments of architecture, sculpture, and painting to communicate their values, expressing ideas about society, politics, religion, and philosophy. This course will investigate important works of Greek and Roman art, as well as the source material that helps us to understand these works in their historical and cultural contexts. Within a chronological framework, thematic topics will include patronage, power, identity, memory, and religion, as well as the relationship between public and private art. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment; Global Consciousness, and new Fall 2017 Culture, Global Diversity. Typically offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
