ARTH 312 - American Art


This course focuses on American art from the 1600’s through the present, with an emphasis on painting, sculpture, and architecture. Both Native American traditions and colonial, European interactions are studied, as well as the contributions of America’s many immigrant cultures. Topics include portraiture, Romantic landscape painting, history painting, and Modernism. Particular consideration will be given to ideas about “American” identity as it is expressed through art.. This course meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment, and new Fall 2017 Culture. Typically Offered On Demand
