MRIS 220 - Legal & Ethical Aspects in HIM


This course will provide an in-depth look at the legal and ethical issues facing health informatics and information professionals. The course covers the legal and ethical framework, issues and concepts, and the role of e-discovery in the emerging health data environment. Other contemporary concepts that will be addressed include; analysis of the laws, regulations, policies and practice such as HIPAA and HITECH as they relate to the confidentiality, privacy and security of health information in an electronic environment. An in-depth review of Federal and State laws and regulations that require specific performance in the acquisition, use, storage and maintenance of health information will also be conducted.
