PPET 284 - Intro Thermoplastic Elastomers This course acquaints students with various categories of TPE, such as thermoplastic olefins (TPO), thermoplastic urethanes (TPU), ionomers, and thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV). Students will learn the unique properties of TPEs because of their morphology and processability so that they behave like “rubber” while being able to be processed like thermoplastics. In addition to the characteristics and fabrication of different TPEs, students will also learn the “dynamic vulcanization” to prepare different TPVs. Typically offered in Fall.
