SCWK 600 - Intro to School Social Work


This course is an Advanced MSW course. It is an introduction to school social work and will prepare students for working in a school setting. It is the first of three required courses necessary to apply for the school social work certification through the Michigan Department of Education. Students will also be required to take SCWK 611  , School Social Work Policy and SCWK 633 , Advanced Micro Practice in School Setting. The course emphasizes the role of the school social worker in the K-12 setting and clinical practice. It includes child development theories, educational theories, and the evaluation of educational eligibility versus medical diagnosis. It also includes a knowledge of federal IDEA polices and state special education rules and how they impact school social work practice.Typically offered Spring, Summer, Fall.
