SOCY 350 - Black Images in Pop Culture This course uses the artifacts in the FSU Jim Crow museum (JCM) and essays on the JCM’s website to teach students to analyze race and race relations as reflected in popular culture. Students will analyze the origins, social consequences, and public policy implications of traditional racial caricatures and contemporary caricatures. Special attention is devoted to the ways that racial images both shape and reflect a nation’s attitudes and beliefs about race and race relations.
