Graduate Certificate

Smart and driverless cars are revolutionizing the automotive industry. Our fully online Advanced Studies in Autonomous Vehicle Research (ASAV) certificate will position you to be a part of that revolution. In this graduate-level program you will build the skills to become a leader in an emerging billion-dollar industry and help launch the next era of transportation as an autonomous vehicle engineer.

Utilizing innovative tools such as AWS DeepRacer, CARLA simulator, and Openpilot, you will become an expert in using artificial intelligence and machine learning to advance driver assistance technologies, like Waymo and Autopilot. This program is the perfect way for those already in the automotive industry to accelerate and future-proof their career.

Program Outcomes


  1. Identify significance of autonomous vehicles in the current technology scene and analyze current production challenges.
  2. Implement solutions for image recognition and object detection problems utilizing Deep Learning technology.
  3. Apply reinforcement learning concepts to build software models for autonomous vehicles.
  4. Design and implement autonomous vehicle software prototypes to solve traffic detection, path planning, and other prediction based problems.

Admissions Requirements


New Student Admissions Requirements


Students must have a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field.  

Transfer Student Admissions Requirements


Students must have a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field.  

All Certificate Requirements - 12 Credits Required


Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for a graduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A GPA of 3.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 70 percent of the degree requirements must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
  • A minimum grade of C or higher must be earned in each course with no more than two grades of C.
  • No more than 6 hours can be independent study and/or special topics.
  • Degree requirements shall be completed within 5 years from first enrollment in a graduate course following admission.
  • Each student must complete a thesis, graduate project, policy paper, internship, comprehensive examination, or additional course work.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • GPA 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
