Associate of Applied Science
The Associate of Applied Science in Architectural Technology degree provides a framework of technical and conceptual knowledge as a foundation of the architecture profession. The curriculum emphasizes visual communication, digital technology, building materials and systems, and digital technology, combined with architectural history, sustainability, and design principles. The program’s mission is to prepare students for a baccalaureate degree in professions related to the built environment. Studio classes emphasize the practice of the profession and explore topics in architectural design, architectural presentation techniques, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Computer Aided Design (CAD), model-making, building materials, building codes, and construction documentation.
The degree prepares graduates to continue their education at Ferris in one of the following Bachelor of Science degrees in Architecture and Sustainability or Facility Management, or Construction Management.

Program Outcomes
- Students will be adequately prepared and demonstrate ability to successfully continue their education or find employment.
- Students will create and present conceptual and technical graphic information, using traditional and digital graphic skills, that complies with the standards of architectural practice.
- Students will produce technically clear drawings and models illustrating the assembly of materials, systems, and components of building design that comply with the standards of architectural practice.
- Students will demonstrate effective use of basic architectural design principles.
- Students will develop an understanding of, and a vocabulary to discuss, the aesthetic and historical traditions of western and non-western architecture.
- Students will understand and apply basic principles utilized in the appropriate selection of construction materials, components, and assemblies, based on inherent characteristics and performance, including their environmental impact and reuse.

University Requirements - 19 to 21 Credits Required
First Year Seminar Requirement (FSUS 100 or Equivalent) - 0 to 1 Credit Required

- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for an associate degree at Ferris State University:
- All requirements as specified in the University Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum of 60 credits must be earned.
- A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
- A minimum of 15 credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
