Minor

Art is at the core of the human experience, helping us to communicate our ideas visually. A minor in Art History helps students to study the human condition by focusing on what people have chosen to create. We study media such as paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs, and films, as well as works of architecture and urban design. Art History minors learn about world cultures and societies by examining art in context and considering the roles of artists, patrons, viewers, and consumers. A minor in Art History will help prepare students to observe carefully, think critically, and respond creatively in whatever career paths they choose to pursue.

Program Outcomes

  1. Identify the work of influential artists and/or architects.
  2. Analyze the formal qualities and styles of works of art and/or architecture.
  3. Evaluate ways in which cultural, historical, social, religious, and/or economic circumstances influence the production of art.
  4. Interpret the function(s) and meaning(s) of works of art according to art historical methods.
  5. Explain ways in which art communicates ideas that both reflect and shape culture(s).
