Associate of Arts

The AA in Community Leadership at Ferris State University provides an opportunity to gain the skill and ability necessary to identify, define, advocate and solve issues facing the communities where we live and work.

Community leaders help to facilitate substantial change within their community by acting to address systemic issues of inequality - economic, social, environmental and cultural. These inequities often leave certain populations isolated, marginalized, and lacking access to important resources imperative to building a successful future. Community leaders work to find solutions that benefit the community as a whole.

Community leaders must be great communicators, problem-solvers, collaborators, and result-focused. They address issues resulting from deep-rooted systemic problems that require transformational change. Community leadership focuses on the development and growth from within a community through engagement, organization, and empowerment.

Program Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to define, describe or explain, and apply leadership principles.
  2. Identify, describe, or explain the forces affecting communities, community-based agencies or community-based programs and services.
  3. Apply leadership theories and styles in combination to identify issues, opportunities, and/or communicate with diverse audiences.
