Minor

With its dual emphasis on writing and reading creative works, the Creative Writing minor encourages students to improve communication skills while developing creative and critical faculties; analytical and problem-solving skills; appreciation for language as both an expressive and a communicative medium; and deeper understanding of human nature, contemporary society, and the role of the individual in today’s world. While all careers are enhanced by strong communication skills, majors that especially benefit from adding a Creative Writing minor include Advertising and Integrated Marketing Communications, Public Relations, Digital Animation and Game Design, and Television and Digital Media Production.

Program Outcomes

  1. Analyze a variety of texts, including content, purposes, components, and meanings.
  2. Compose a variety of creative works that demonstrate an awareness of audience.
  3. Participate in public creative writing discourse.
  4. Make informed structural and stylistic choices in writing.
  5. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of major literary practices and works.
