Bachelor of Science
The Criminal Justice, Corrections Option is for those who want to work with deviant clients including the institutional setting, probation/parole, juveniles, and social service agencies. Coursework introduces various components that comprise the structure and clientele of correctional institutions, community corrections, and social service agencies. Emphasis is placed on interpersonal communication, crisis intervention, and working with special deviant populations. This option includes Michigan Correctional Officer’s Training Council (MCOTC) certification for job entry into the Michigan Department of Corrections. This option includes certification of the minimum educational requirements for the position of state corrections officer as established by the Michigan Correctional Officers’ Training Council for those students wishing to work as a county jail corrections officer in Michigan.

Program Outcomes

New Student Admission Requirements
- Minimum 2.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
- Complete all course requirements necessary to complete the Associate of Arts (AA) in Criminal Justice program at Ferris State University.
Transfer Student Admission Requirements
- Minimum 2.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
- Complete all course requirements necessary to complete the Associate of Arts (AA) in Criminal Justice program at Ferris State University.
University Requirements - 39 to 40 Credits Required
First Year Seminar Requirement (FSUS 100 or Equivalent) - Credit Required Met in Associate

University General Education Requirements - 39 to 40 Credits Required

Communication Competency - 12 Credits Required (or Their Equivalent)
The Communication (COMM) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA).
Quantitative Literacy Competency - 3 to 4 Credits Required (or Their Equivalent) Met in Associate
The Mathematics (MATH) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA).
Natural Sciences Competency - 6 Credits Required Met in Associate
Two courses are required with a minimum of 6 credits: must have at least one lab course. Courses are met in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA); see MyDegree for a list of courses.
Culture Competency - 9 Credits Required Met in Associate
Three courses are required with a minimum of 9 credits: must be from two different disciplines and have at least one 200 level or higher course. Courses are met in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA); see MyDegree for a list of courses.
Self and Society Competency - 9 Credits Required Met in Associate
Three courses are required with a minimum of 9 credits: must be from two different disciplines, have at least one 200 level or higher course, and at least one Self and Society Foundation course. The Sociology (SOCY) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA).
United States (U.S.) Diversity Competency - Course Required Met in Self and Society Competency
If not met by courses taken for Culture Competency, Self and Society Competency, or Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), a student must have one course with the United States (U.S.) Diversity attribute. Some courses include both Global and United States (U.S.) Diversity attributes.
Global Diversity Competency - Course Required Met in Self and Society Competency
If not met by courses taken for Culture Competency, Self and Society Competency, or Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), a student must have one course with the Global Diversity attribute. Some courses include both Global and United States (U.S.) Diversity attributes. The Sociology (SOCY) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Self and Society Competency section.
Collaboration Competency - Courses Required Met in College Requirements
If not met by courses taken in the College Requirements section, a student must have two courses with the Collaboration attribute. Some courses include both Collaboration and Problem Solving attributes.
Problem Solving Competency - Courses Required Met in College Requirements
If not met by courses taken in the College Requirements section, a student must have two courses with the Problem Solving attribute. Some courses include both Collaboration and Problem Solving attributes.

The credits required may vary depending on courses taken.
In order to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, a student must have a minimum of 120 credits. The electives required for each student may vary depending on courses taken. Based on how a student meets the programmatic requirements, they may need more or less than 16 credits of elective courses to meet the required 120 credit minimum.
Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- Michigan Corrections Officer Training Council (MCOTC) Certification Courses include CRIM 111 , CRIM 319 , CRIM 370 , CRIM 435 , and CRIM 475 all with a grade of C or higher.
- Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council (MSCTC) Certification Courses include CRIM 111 , CRIM 305 , CRIM 319 , CRIM 322 , CRIM 370 , CRIM 401 , CRIM 425 , CRIM 435 , CRIM 475 , CRIM 460 , and CRIM 465 all with a grade of C or higher.

In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a bachelor’s degree at Ferris State University:
- All requirements as specified in the University Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum of 120 credits must be earned.
- A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
- A minimum of 30 credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- A minimum of 40 credits of 300 level or higher courses must be earned.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
