Bachelor of Science
The Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Option’s main goal is to provide a quality education to prepare students for a career as a law enforcement officer at all levels of government. This option provides students with outstanding problem-solving abilities, critical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as strong communication capabilities. This option leads the student to our nationally recognized and state certified Law Enforcement Academy, enabling the student to be best prepared for entry-level positions in the field of law enforcement. Our highly qualified and experienced faculty use a problem-based learning approach that produces high quality and sought-after law enforcement professionals.

Program Outcomes
- Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to employ self-awareness, knowledge, and methodologies to enhance their interpersonal interactions and will demonstrate a positive perspective and consciousness of the significant roles race, ethnicity, gender and sexual identity play in shaping world views and social interactions.
- Demonstrate the ability to successfully perform job tasks in six major areas of law enforcement: patrol procedures, investigations, detention and prosecution, police skills, and traffic and special operation.
- Demonstrate the ability to successfully perform in stressful situations.
- Display a professional bearing and manner, and the ability to treat others fairly, ethically, and equitably in a timely and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate mastery of fundamental knowledge of law enforcement operations.
New Student Admission Requirements
- Minimum 2.50 GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
- Complete all course requirements necessary to complete the Associate of Arts (AA) in Criminal Justice program at Ferris State University.
Transfer Student Admission Requirements
- Combined college or university GPA of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) from all institutions attended.
- Complete all course requirements necessary to complete the Associate of Arts (AA) in Criminal Justice program at Ferris State University.
- The degree completion program at a statewide and online location requires to earn either a completed Associate degree or at least 48 transferable semester credit hours from an accredited college or university.
University Requirements - 39 to 40 Credits Required
First Year Seminar Requirement (FSUS 100 or Equivalent) - Credit Required Met in Associate
All First-Time-In-Any-College Freshmen (FTIACs) must complete a one-credit FSUS 100 course, or its equivalent. Additional information and the definition of FTIAC for FSUS purposes can be found in the: Ferris State University Academic Affairs FSUS Policy
University General Education Requirements - 39 to 40 Credits Required

Communication Competency - 12 Credits Required (or Their Equivalent)
The Communication (COMM) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA).
Quantitative Literacy Competency - 3 to 4 Credits Required (or Their Equivalent) Met in Associate
The Mathematics (MATH) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA).
Natural Sciences Competency - 6 Credits Required Met in Associate
Two courses are required with a minimum of 6 credits: must have at least one lab course. Courses are met in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA); see MyDegree for a list of courses.
Culture Competency - 9 Credits Required Met in Associate
Three courses are required with a minimum of 9 credits: must be from two different disciplines and have at least one 200 level or higher course. Courses are met in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA); see MyDegree for a list of courses.
Self and Society Competency - 9 Credits Required Met in Associate
Three courses are required with a minimum of 9 credits: must be from two different disciplines, have at least one 200 level or higher course, and at least one Self and Society Foundation course. The Sociology (SOCY) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Criminal Justice associate program (CRJU-AA).
United States (U.S.) Diversity Competency - Course Required Met in Self and Society Competency
If not met by courses taken for Culture Competency, Self and Society Competency, or Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), a student must have one course with the United States (U.S.) Diversity attribute. Some courses include both Global and United States (U.S.) Diversity attributes.
Global Diversity Competency - Course Required Met in Self and Society Competency
If not met by courses taken for Culture Competency, Self and Society Competency, or Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), a student must have one course with the Global Diversity attribute. Some courses include both Global and United States (U.S.) Diversity attributes. The Sociology (SOCY) course chosen depends on the course taken in the Self and Society Competency section.
Collaboration Competency - Courses Required Met in College Requirements
If not met by courses taken in the College Requirements section, a student must have two courses with the Collaboration attribute. Some courses include both Collaboration and Problem Solving attributes.
Problem Solving Competency - Courses Required Met in College Requirements
If not met by courses taken in the College Requirements section, a student must have two courses with the Problem Solving attribute. Some courses include both Collaboration and Problem Solving attributes.

Notes
- A minimum 2.50 GPA is required for admission to this program. Students must maintain a minimum 2.50 GPA while enrolled in the curriculum. A 2.50 GPA is also required for graduation.
- Students pursuing the Forensic Science (FSCI) minor, should meet with their advisor for appropriate course deviations for CRIM 440 and Psychology (PSYC) courses.
- Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Certification Courses - CRIM 355 , CRIM 356 , CRIM 403 , CRIM 420 , CRIM 425 , CRIM 430 , CRIM 440 , CRIM 453 , CRIM 454 , and RMLS 425 all with a C or higher.

Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a bachelor’s degree at Ferris State University:
- All requirements as specified in the University Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum of 120 credits must be earned.
- A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
- A minimum of 30 credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- A minimum of 40 credits of 300 level or higher courses must be earned.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:
- All requirements as specified in the College Requirements section must be met.
- A 2.50 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
