Cybersecurity - Ethical Hacking (CYEH-CT) Certificate

Undergraduate Certificate

The Cybersecurity - Ethical Hacking Certificate was created to increase the options available for Ferris State University students and professionals seeking to supplement their education with ethical hacking and penetration testing skills. Students may also earn industry certifications such as EC Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker (Cl EH) and CompTIA’s Security+.

  • The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security have designated Ferris State University as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.
  • The Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations has named Ferris State University as the first university to obtain designation as a National Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence.

Program Outcomes


  1. Theory and Practice - Work as a member of an information security and/or intelligence team and effectively integrate theories and practice in an information security environment.
  2. Security Domain - Demonstrate knowledge of concepts and methodologies of the principles of information security objectives and the information security lifecycle.
  3. Security Assessment - Assess the security posture of computer networks and computer software; demonstrate how to identify security vulnerabilities, remediate vulnerabilities, and document the vulnerabilities.
  4. Digital Devices - Theorize ways digital devices could be used for security and criminal activity and collect and process digital information in support of an investigation or hypothesis.
  5. Event Analysis - Recognize the potential for multiple explanations for events and information and be able to analyze and describe the accuracy of the information.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.35 HS GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and/or 16/900 ACT/SAT
  • Applicant should show proof of high school graduation with a 2.35 GPA (on a 4.00 scale). If it is determined by the College of Business Dean’s Office/Student Academic Affairs that regular program admission criteria should be met in order to complete the certificate successfully and be a contributing member of the course, all college transcripts should be submitted to the Admissions Office.

Transfer Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.35 College GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • No more than 50% of the credits may be transferred from another institution.

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • For students seeking a degree from Ferris State University, a maximum of 50 percent of the certificate credits can be from courses required in their program/major.
  • A term prior to completion of the certificate, students must log into MyFSU and complete the “Apply for Graduation”. You will receive an email back with the next steps to take. Once this is done, the Graduation Secretary will notify the Registrar who will note the completion of the certificate.
