Bachelor of Science
The Bachelor of Science in Facility Management prepares graduates for the practice of maintaining safe, well-designed work environments, through oversight of architecture, interior design, technical infrastructure, real estate acquisition, security, environmental and safety plans. The program is designed for students with an associate degree in Architectural Technology or a related program. The curriculum combines general education and business studies with building technology and facility-related coursework. Students are provided with the concepts, skills, and values necessary to successfully enter the employment market in facility management or related professions.
The Bachelor of Science in Facility Management is accredited by the Applied and Natural Sciences Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Facility Management.

Program Outcomes
- Effective Communication - Students will use a variety of media to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Leadership and Management - Students will understand, identify, and summarize organizational, managerial, ethical, and legal principles for the delivery of facility management services.
- Human and Environmental Factors - Students will understand and integrate concepts concerning relationships between the physical work environment, social, psychological, and physiological needs of the users. They will also understand and integrate concepts concerning safe and functional work environments in the context of sustainable ecological practices.
- Operations and Maintenance - Students will understand and integrate operation, planning, budgeting, and management practices for the following: building systems, system operations, system diagnostics, maintenance, occupant services, and real estate holdings.
- Internship - Students will reinforce classroom concepts through engagement in and completion of the Facility Management internship program.
- Professionalism and Career Potential - Graduates will be successful in finding employment and/or continuing their education.
New Student Admission Requirements
- Application Deadline: February 1st prior to fall semester requested.
- The Facility Management, BS degree is only open to students who meet the Transfer Student Admission Requirements below.
- High school students interested in this program may apply to the Building Construction Technology, AAS, Civil Engineering Technology - HighwayEmphasis, AAS or Architectural Technology, AAS program.
Transfer Student Admission Requirements
- Must have completed an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Technology or Equivalent, a minimum of 60 credit hours
- 2.75 College GPA (on a 4.00 scale) (2.50 -2.74 with college approval)
- Placement in MATH 115 /MATH 116
University Requirements - 39 Credits Required
First Year Seminar Requirement (FSUS 100 or Equivalent) - Credit Required Met in Associate

- Official Pre-2016 Math SAT Score of 560 or Higher
- Official Pre-2016 Math SAT Score of 580 or Higher

Natural Sciences Competency - 6 Credits Required
Two courses are required with a minimum of 6 credits: must have at least one lab course. Recommended BIOL 111 , BIOL 116 , GEOL 121 , or GEOG 121 for second course.
Culture Competency - 9 Credits Required
Three courses are required with a minimum of 9 credits: must be from two different disciplines and have at least one 200 level or higher course. Self and Society Competency - 9 Credits Required
Three courses are required with a minimum of 9 credits: must be from two different disciplines, have at least one 200 level or higher course, and at least one Self and Society Foundation course.
United States (U.S.) Diversity Competency - 1 Course Required
If not met by courses taken for Culture Competency, Self and Society Competency, or Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), a student must have one course with the United States (U.S.) Diversity attribute. Some courses include both Global and United States (U.S.) Diversity attributes. Global Diversity Competency - 1 Course Required

These courses are used to calculate the major 2.00 GPA requirement.
Technical Related Courses - 18 Credits Required
These courses are not used to calculate the major 2.00 GPA requirement.
Electives - 31 Credits Required
The credits required may vary depending on courses taken.
A total of 31 technical credits from an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Architectural Technology (ARCH), or equivalent, that are approved by the department is required. In order to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, a student must have a minimum of 120 credits. The electives required for each student may vary depending on courses taken. Based on how a student meets the programmatic requirements, they may need more or less than 31 credits of elective courses to meet the required 120 credit minimum. These courses are not used to calculate the major 2.00 GPA requirement.
Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a bachelor’s degree at Ferris State University:
- All requirements as specified in the University Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum of 120 credits must be earned.
- A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
- A minimum of 30 credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- A minimum of 40 credits of 300 level or higher courses must be earned.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:
- All requirements as specified in the College Requirements section must be met.
- A 2.00 or higher cumulative GPA is required in the Major Courses section.
