Certificate Program

The Forensic Accounting Certificate will broaden your skills and knowledge base in the areas of financial fraud, data analysis and business disputes. It isdesigned to enhance your skills related to the prevention and detection of fraud, identification of common fraud motives, data analysis techniques andthe quantification of the financial impact from financial maleficence. There is growing demand for professionals who can assist with the analysis of fraud,white-collar crimes, business disputes, money laundering and many other related activities. This certificate can increase your opportunities in careers suchas fraud examination, auditing, and financial analysis. It can also complement knowledge and skills in many other related fields such as risk management,cybersecurity, digital forensics, insurance and criminal justice

Program Outcomes


  1. Identify and describe various forms of fraud. Learn accepted methods of collecting and handling evidence. Summarize the economic consequences of business activities to inform decision makers in complex economic environments supported by accepted accounting principles and industry standards.
  2. Identify and describe possible ethical issues such as conflict of interest, bribery, and breach of fiduciary duty. Adhere to the ethical requirements of the profession and be able to make value-based decisions by identifying ethical issues and formulating well-founded ethical judgments in the practice of accounting.
  3. Explore how motive, opportunity and rationalization can lead to fraud. Evaluate economic effects of business transactions and identify assumptions, extraneous information, reasoning, and evaluation of arguments.
  4. Learn to transform digital information into visual format for analysis, interpretation, and presentation. Present and defend interpretations of financial information through formal and informal, written, and oral presentations using appropriate technology.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.35 HS GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and/or 16/900 ACT/SAT
  • Applicant should show proof of high school graduation with a 2.35 GPA (on a 4.00 scale). If it is determined by the College of Business Dean’s Office/Student Academic Affairs that regular program admission criteria should be met in order to complete the certificate successfully and be a contributingmember of the course, all college transcripts should be submitted to the Admissions Office.

Transfer Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.35 College GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • No more than 50% of the credits may be transferred from another institution.

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Accountancy students must be able to demonstrate competency in ISYS 105  topics or take ISYS 105 .
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for a graduate degree at Ferris State University:

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • For students seeking a degree from Ferris State University, a maximum of 50 percent of the certificate credits can be from courses required in their program/major.
  • A term prior to completion of the certificate, students must log into MyFSU and complete the “Apply for Graduation”. You will receive an email back withthe next steps to take. Once this is done, the Graduation Secretary will notify the Registrar who will note the completion of the certificate.
