Undergraduate Certificate

The International Business certificate gives students a more advanced understanding of contemporary international business theory and its practical application. The certificate can improve a students overall performance, remove uncertainty and widen market opportunities. The certificate displays a level of competency and interest to employers. Graduates with in-demand skills should seek out positions that call for these abilities. Corporations that have established overseas or are looking to cement bonds with global partners are especially looking for candidates with skills in international business. With applications across a spectrum of industries, salaries will vary depending on what type of business students specialize in, who students work for and where.

Program Outcomes


  1. International Study Abroad - Offer all majors the opportunity to do extended study in international dimension to business.
  2. International Business Foundations - Provide students exposure to the quantitative and qualitative foundations to international business.
  3. Different Cultures - Enhance student awareness of different cultures and how culture affects business practices by requiring an overseas experience. Competencies, knowledge of skills to be achieved.
  4. Foundation knowledge - To develop an understanding of the linkage between theory and practice of business (foundation knowledge).
  5. Contemporary Business Issues - To ensure students are conversant in contemporary business issues (including diversity, ethical decision making, and international/cultural environment).
  6. Skills - To develop communication skills, critical thinking skills, research skills.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.35 HS GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and/or 16/900 ACT/SAT
  • Applicant should show proof of high school graduation with a 2.35 GPA (on a 4.00 scale). If it is determined by the College of Business Dean’s Office/Student Academic Affairs that regular program admission criteria should be met in order to complete the certificate successfully and be a contributing member of the course, all college transcripts should be submitted to the Admissions Office.

Transfer Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.35 College GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • No more than 50% of the credits may be transferred from another institution.

All Certificate Requirements - 12 Credits Required


Certificate Courses - 9 Credits Required


Elective - 3 Credits Required


Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • For students seeking a degree from Ferris State University, a maximum of 50 percent of the certificate credits can be from courses required in their program/major.
  • A term prior to completion of the certificate, students must log into MyFSU and complete the “Apply for Graduation”. You will receive an email back with the next steps to take. Once this is done, the Graduation Secretary will notify the Registrar who will note the completion of the certificate.
