Undergraduate Certificate

The Certificate in Industrial Chemistry Technology is the newest addition to the already well established AAS and relatively new BS in Industrial Chemistry that Ferris State offers. The Certificate is tailored to meet the needs of anyone working or planning to work in chemical or related manufacturing. It is possible to use the Certificate classes to bolster formal training in chemistry, refresh skills, or as a professional development opportunity. It can also be used as a point of entry into the other Industrial Chemistry degrees whether you are a full-time Ferris student or in a full-time career in manufacturing. The Certificate comprises three classes CHEM 140 , CHEM 145 , and CHEM 240 .

Program Outcomes


  1. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of chemistry through problem solving, application, and critical evaluation of resources.
  2. Students will operate in a safe, productive, and effective manner in lab and related areas.
  3. Students will effectively discuss and report technical information in a clear, concise, and scientifically appropriate manner.
  4. Students will ask informed questions and critically evaluate information in the literature.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • Open to any student admitted to Ferris State University
  • 2.5 High School GPA (on a 4.00 scale) and/or
  • Minimum Composite ACT Score of 12/SAT 900

Transfer Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.00 College GPA (on a 4.00 scale)

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
