Bachelor of Arts
The History major gives students a broad and in-depth understanding of the diverse political, economic, and cultural factors affecting American life and the global marketplace today. It also prepares students to gather, assimilate, and interpret a wide variety of information from many different sources and to view issues from different perspectives. Students in the History major study the history of the United States, the history of other regions of the world, and the methods of historical research, including courses of special interest to them. For this reason, the History major is excellent preparation for a wide variety of career paths, including museum work, archival work/research, legal studies, education, journalism, government, and public policy analysis.

Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- If you are unable to complete your Bachelor of Arts required foreign language or your general education math and science courses by the end of your second year, fourth semester, you are strongly urged to enroll in Ferris State University’s summer semesters or a local community college near your hometown.
- Foreign languages, mathematics, and natural sciences/lab courses will pose the greatest challenges to juniors and seniors in terms of course scheduling conflicts. These are typically 4-credit courses, and they meet at times that are often in conflict with the traditional schedule matrix used by 3-credit courses in your major and minor. To save time and money, these courses ideally need to be completed before you start your third year in the Bachelor of Arts in History (HIST-BA) program.
- The Bachelor of Arts degree requires students to successfully complete at least fourteen 300 level courses and earn 120 credit hours.
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.
