Graduate Certificate
The goal of the 9 credit Advanced Graduate Certificate in Highly Effective Career & Technical Education (CTE) Instructional Leadership is provide teachers with the latest research knowledge on the different programs, products, practices and policies that work in schools. The goal is to provide CTE educators with the information they need to make evidence-based decisions to address classroom challenges and improve student success. These same principles can be translated into effective training for business and industry as they struggle to improve the effectiveness of their training programs.

Program Outcomes
- To implement effective instructional strategies and implement assessment and intervention procedures for teaching exceptional learners.
- To identify legislated regulations and the psychological, academic, social, and cognitive characteristics associated with teaching exceptional learners in the classroom.
- To integrate advanced educational technology for improved teaching and learning to high standards - work to ensure that no child is left behind.
- To explore the most current innovations designed to increase the rigor and relevance of what students learn in school to align them more closely with the demands of the twenty-first century economy and workforce while creating stronger linkages between secondary and postsecondary education.
- To identify methods to better engage students, to enhance academic and technical achievement; and improve the transition of college and career ready from high school to continuing education.
New Student Admission Requirements
- Completed application for admission.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.00 or higher GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
- Submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Ferris graduates need not submit transcripts for courseworkcompleted at Ferris.
- International students whose first (native) language is not English need to have English proficiency test scores sent directly from the testing agency todemonstrate meeting the Ferris standards for English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo).
These requirements also apply to Transfer Students.

Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- The goal of the nine-credit Graduate Certificate in Highly Effective CTE Instructional Leadership is provide teachers with the latest research knowledge on the different programs, products, practices, and policies that work in schools. The goal is to provide Career and Technical Education (CTE) educators with the information they need to make evidence-based decisions to address classroom challenges and improve student success. These same principles can be translated into effective training for business and industry as they struggle to improve the effectiveness of their training programs.
- This Graduate Certificate in Highly Effective CTE Instructional Leadership can be taken as a separate certificate or as a part of the Master of Science in Career and Technical Education (MSCTE) program.
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a graduate certificate at Ferris State University:
- A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
- A GPA of 3.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
- A minimum of 70 percent of the degree requirements must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- A minimum grade of C or higher must be earned in each course with no more than two grades of C.
- No more than 6 hours can be independent study and/or special topics.
- Degree requirements shall be completed within 5 years from first enrollment in a graduate course following admission.
- Each student must complete a thesis, graduate project, policy paper, internship, comprehensive examination, or additional course work.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:
- All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
