Undergraduate Certificate

The objective of the certificate program in surveying is simply to give the program completers a general exposure to the surveying practice and the capacity for employment with a real surveying degree. Courses will cover fundamentals of surveying, field data collection using conventional and modern electronic data collection instruments, and basic computations and mapping.

Program Outcomes


  1. Perform basic differential leveling in the field.
  2. Reduce differential leveling observations.
  3. Recognize the concept of field data collection using conventional and modern electronic data collection instruments such as an electronic total station.
  4. Recognize the concept of field data collection using global positioning system (GPS) instruments.
  5. Recognize the basic concept of how to prepare a topographic map from actual survey data.
  6. Perform traverse computations and simple traverse adjustment.
  7. Develop an appreciation for establishing horizontal and vertical control for a small to medium size surveying project.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.75 High School GPA (on a 4.00 scale) (2.50 -2.74 with college approval)
  • Placement into MATH 120 

Transfer Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.00 College GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
  • Placement into MATH 120

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • A minimum grade of C- must be earned in all certificate courses.
