Master of Healthcare Administration
The fully online Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree is designed to meet the needs of today’s healthcare leadership and beyond. In the expanding, ever-changing healthcare delivery system, extensive expertise and understanding of healthcare industry business is essential, especially for those in leadership roles. This program prepares graduates with the necessary skill and knowledge to lead healthcare organizations through the use of evidence-based decision making in the areas of economics, financial management, organizational behavior and human resource management, strategic planning, and marketing, with a keen focus on quality improvement, resource efficiency, and interprofessional collaboration.

Program Outcomes
- Develop and lead the implementation of a project intended to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in a real-world situation.
- Evaluate the impact of population health and status in a variety of settings.
- From an economic standpoint, synthesize a strategic plan for evaluation of the distribution of health services based on current health policy, in a community.
- Based on organizational theory and behavior, evaluate various methods and techniques of human resource management which impact employee engagement and job satisfaction, with a specific focus on physicians and healthcare professionals.
- Generate an operational analysis of the structure and performance of a healthcare organization, including the distribution of power and circumstances regarding merger, joint venture, and other financial arrangements.
- Synthesize a plan for information system management and assessment, which addresses legal aspects and current threats to privacy and security.
- Compose a statement of personal leadership style based on leadership theory, change management and team development and governance.
- Create a marketing plan for a healthcare setting.
- Devise a leadership plan for financial analysis and management in today’s healthcare setting.
- Synthesize a leadership plan for building a legal and ethical corporate culture with an emphasis on evidence-based clinical decision-making, patient safety, quality, and efficiency.
New Student Admission Requirements
- Completed application for admission.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree and/or a professional terminal degree (e.g. PharmD, M.D., O.D., D.O, etc.) from an accredited college or university with a 3.00 or higher GPA (on a 4.00 scale).
- Submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Ferris graduates need not submit transcripts for coursework completed at Ferris.
- Submit a current, professional resume or curriculum vitae.
- Submit a personal statement of your interest in healthcare administration.
- Request three (3) professional references from individuals familiar with academic or professional backgrounds and can provide an assessment of the applicant’s current work quality and ability to complete graduate education successfully.
- Have successful completion of a college-level mathematics course equivalent to MATH 115 or higher, with a grade of C or higher.
- Have successful completion of a basic statistics course, equivalent to COHP 350 and COHP 450 , with a grade of C or higher.
- Should have coursework that includes college-level social and natural science courses, such as Biology, Chemistry, and Social Science electives and have grades of C or higher.
- International students whose first (native) language is not English need to have English proficiency test scores sent directly from the testing agency to demonstrate meeting the Ferris standards for English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo).
- Application Deadline: June 1 for Fall Semester and November 1 for Spring Semester Applicants may need to complete an interview with program faculty in instances where the program has reached enrollment capacity.
- Provisional admission may be granted if an applicant does not meet all the admission requirements. If provisional admission is granted, the applicant must successfully complete the first nine (9) credit hours of graduate-level coursework with a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) and correct all deficiencies in their admission requirements within the first nine (9) credits of the program.

Choose one concentration. Traditional Concentration (TRMH) - 6 Credits Required
A minimum of 6 credits is required in advisor approved elective courses. For suggested courses, see the Suggested Electives for Traditional Concentration (TRMH) section. The advisor approved elective courses must be at the graduate level. If there is a course that is offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level, it must have assignments specifically designed for the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) student.
Executive Concentration (EXMH) - Credits Required Met with Management Experience
This concentration is available for students with a minimum of two years management experience; see your advisor.
Suggested Electives for Traditional Concentration (TRMH)
These are suggested courses to meet the minimum of 6 credits required in advisor approved elective courses in the Traditional Concentration (TRMH) section.
Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a graduate degree at Ferris State University:
- A minimum of 30 credits must be earned.
- A 3.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA in graduate courses is required.
- A minimum grade of C or higher must be earned in each course with no more than two grades of C.
- A minimum of 70 percent of the degree requirements must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- No more than 20 percent of required hours can be thesis credits.
- No more than 6 hours can be independent study and/or special topics.
- Degree requirements shall be completed within 5 years from first enrollment in a graduate course following admission.
- Each student must complete a thesis, graduate project, policy paper, internship, comprehensive examination, or additional course work.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:
- All requirements as specified in the All Major Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum grade of B must be earned in all courses with no more than two grades of less than a B. Two unsuccessful attempts, grades less than a B, in any MOHA course(s) will result in dismissal from the program.
