Machine learning is transforming the world! The phenomenon of Big Data means that volumes of data being produced and collected make it impossible for humans to use classic ways to generate knowledge. Using machine learning becomes an essential function for organizations, not only in the field of Information Technology (IT), but in Finance, health, manufacturing, Autonomous vehicles, and various other fields. It allows companies to extract insights from this data to use it for our benefit! Through various internet technologies, data is being collected for every human, machine and natural event. Every business is looking for ways to improve their processes and operations using machine learning, thus creating an opportunity for machine learning engineers.

Program Outcomes


  1. Master fundamentals of machine learning.
  2. Design projects to utilize machine learning algorithms for real life problems.
  3. Improve software solutions using fitting machine learning techniques.
  4. Design and build cloud-based applications.
  5. Design solutions that utilize big data concepts and exploit big data industry tools.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • An associate degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Alternatively, students must have passed two programming courses with a grade of B or higher.

These requirements also apply to Transfer Students.

These courses are used to calculate the certificate 2.70 GPA requirement.

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • A GPA of 2.70 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum grade of C must be earned in all certificate courses.
  • For students seeking a degree from Ferris State University, a maximum of 50 percent of the certificate credits can be from courses required in their program/major.
  • A term prior to completion of the certificate, students must log into MyFSU and complete the “Apply for Graduation”. The application can be accessed in MyFSU under “Student Records”.
