Master of Public Health
In our fully online Master’s of Public Health (MPH) program, you will accelerate your career toward leadership positions in public health, from community health departments to global health agencies. Complete your degree in two years or less while building the skills you need to educate and empower your community toward better health outcomes.

Program Outcomes
- Conduct a comprehensive evaluation, using quantitative and qualitative methods, of a health behavior change intervention among residents of a rural or underserved community.
- Identify weaknesses in existing, real-world environmental health and/or safety policies and use knowledge gained to make recommendations for improvement.
- Synthesize strategies to develop a culturally competent health promotion and education program.
- Design a study and apply epidemiologic methods to quantify and propose solutions for a public health issue.
- Articulate a management style to address a variety of issues in public health settings or in settings that use a public health perspective in service delivery.
New Student Admission Requirements
- Completed application for admission,
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 2.5 or higher GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Admission to or completion of terminal professional degree (e.g., Pharmacy Doctorate (PharmD), Optometry Doctorate (O.D.), Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), etc.,)
- Submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Ferris graduates need not submit transcripts for coursework completed at Ferris.
- Submit a current, professional resume or curriculum vitae.
- Submit a personal statement of interest in public health.
- Request three (3) professional references from individuals familiar with academic or professional backgrounds and can provide an assessment of the applicant’s current work quality and ability to complete graduate education successfully.
- Have successful completion of a college-level mathematics course with a grade of C or higher, equivalent to MATH 115 or higher.
- Have successful completion of a basic statistics course with a grade of C or higher; equivalent to COHP 350 or higher, including college-level social and natural science courses with a grade of C or higher in courses, such as biology, chemistry, physics, and social science elective courses.
- International students whose first (native) language is not English need to have English proficiency test scores sent directly from the testing agency to demonstrate meeting the Ferris standards for English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo).
Provisional admission may be granted to students who do not meet admission requirements. If provisional admission is granted, complete nine (9) credit hours of graduate coursework with a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) to satisfy admission requirements and clear any remaining deficiencies in their admission requirements.
These requirements also apply to Transfer Students.

Capstone, Synthesis, and Integration Courses - 9 Credits Required
These courses are used to calculate the major 3.00 GPA requirement.
Concentration - 6 Credits Required (Advisor Approval)
Choose one concentration.
Generalist Master of Public Health Concentration (MGN) - 6 Credits Required
These courses are not used to calculate the major 3.00 GPA requirement.

Pharmacy Master of Public Health Concentration (PMPH) - 6 Credits Required
These courses are not used to calculate the major 3.00 GPA requirement.
Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- Two unsuccessful attempts, grades less than B, in any PUBH course(s) will result in a dismissal from the program.
- Students who need to take undergraduate coursework to meet the foundational requirements for the Public Health (MPH) may take these designated points. These courses noted in credits in parentheses do not count towards the 42 credits required for the Public Health (MPH).
- Students must complete at least four PUBH 500-level courses before enrolling in PUBH 692 .
- Students must complete all PUBH courses and other program requirements, including a passing grade in a comprehensive exam, before enrolling in PUBH 694 .
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.
Selected Electives Guidelines for Undergraduate Course Required for the Master of Public Health (MPH)
- Students who enter the Public Health (MPH) program without the required coursework, as outlined in the Admission Requirements section, may take some of these courses concurrently with beginning Public Health (MPH) courses; see the Suggested Semester Layout section.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.
University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a graduate degree at Ferris State University:
- A minimum of 30 credits must be earned.
- A 3.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA in graduate courses is required.
- A minimum grade of C or higher must be earned in each course with no more than two grades of C.
- A minimum of 70 percent of the degree requirements must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- No more than 20 percent of required hours can be thesis credits.
- No more than 6 hours can be independent study and/or special topics.
- Degree requirements shall be completed within 5 years from first enrollment in a graduate course following admission.
- Each student must complete a thesis, graduate project, policy paper, internship, comprehensive examination, or additional course work.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:
- All requirements as specified in the All Major Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum grade of B must be earned in all PUBH courses.
