Long Term Care (LTC-CT) Certificate

Undergraduate Certificate

The curriculum for the Long Term Care certificate program includes courses in management, marketing, accounting, quality assurance, health care finance, health care planning and long-term care management. This certificate program helps students to meet Michigan’s requirements to sit for the Nursing Home Administrators tests. For the other additional requirements refer back to the State of Michigan.  Students with this certificate primarily focus on working in long term care settings.  

Program Outcomes


  1. Graduates will pass the state nursing home administrator licensing exam.
  2. Graduates will utilize the knowledge and professional competencies to practice as an entry level practitioner in long term care; Assisted Living Manager, Administrator in Training, etc.

Admission Requirements


New Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.50 High School GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
  • One year of high school algebra with a grade of C- or higher.

Transfer Student Admission Requirements


  • 2.50 High School GPA (on a 4.00 scale) or College Work.

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University:

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
  • A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
  • A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:

  • All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
  • A minimum grade of C must be earned in all certificate courses. Students who earn less than C in any of the above courses will be required to repeat the course. Two unsuccessful attempts in any HCSA course will result in dismissal from the program.
  • For students seeking a degree from Ferris State University, a maximum of 50 percent of the certificate credits can be from courses required in their program/major.
