Undergraduate Certificate

The one-year certificate in Heavy Equipment Technology focuses on inspection, diagnostics, and repair/rebuild of all types of heavy-duty equipment. Student will be able to identify problems through measurement and observation, interpret data collected and decide on a course of action. In hands-on labs, students repair, replace or adjust components and perform preventive maintenance tasks. Heavy Equipment Technology Certificate completers often secure gainful employment with job titles that include heavy equipment technician, agricultural equipment technician, maintenance technician, and service technician. Students can also choose to stay and pursue the Associate of Applied Sciences in Heavy Equipment Technology.

Program Outcomes


1. Students will demonstrate knowledge in the area of electrical and electronics as applied in the heavy equipment industry.
2. Students will demonstrate knowledge in the area of hydraulics and hydrostatics as applied in the heavy equipment industry.
3. Students will demonstrate knowledge in the area of power trains as applied in the heavy equipment industry.
4. Students will demonstrate knowledge in the area of diesel engines as applied in the heavy equipment industry.

Admissions Requirements


New Student Admissions Requirements


  • 2.50 High School GPA (on a 4.00 scale) or SAT Score of 900 or ACT Score of 17

Transfer Student Admissions Requirements


  • 2.00 Cumulative College GPA (on a 4.00 scale)

Notes


  • Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
  • Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.

Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements.

University Graduation Requirements


These are the minimum graduation requirements for a certificate at Ferris State University:
• A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
• A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
• A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.

Programmatic Graduation Requirements


These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program:
• All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
