Undergraduate Certificate
The Lean Systems Certificate prepares individuals to apply lean concepts to process improvement situations in a variety of industries. The certificate integrates the core Lean System Principles (value stream mapping, PDCA, 5S, pull, leveling process stability, standardized work, root-cause problem resolution and A3 Reporting), Six Sigma, Lean Culture & Skills Development, and Leadership. Theory is applied to practical, real-life situations through experiential projects with industry partners. Graduates are prepared to assist an organization in achieving and sustaining optimal employee and organization/operational performance. Potential careers in logistics, management analyst, quality/production control, purchasing, and supply chain management are obtained in organizations such as banks, hospitals, manufacturing, and non-profits.

Program Outcomes
- Design and deploy a process improvement system within a service organization that leads to a sustainable competitive advantage.
- Exhibit a high level of team collaboration, leadership, and change management capabilities through implementing a lean service project/initiative.
- Examine lean knowledge and experiences from education, training and lean tactical projects.
New Student Admission Requirements
- 2.35 HS GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and/or 16/900 ACT/SAT
- Applicant should show proof of high school graduation with a 2.35 GPA (on a 4.00 scale). If it is determined by the College of Business Dean’s Office/Student Academic Affairs that regular program admission criteria should be met in order to complete the certificate successfully and be a contributing member of the course, all college transcripts should be submitted to the Admissions Office.
Transfer Student Admission Requirements
- 2.35 College GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
- No more than 50% of the credits may be transferred from another institution.
All Certificate Requirements - 12 Credits Required
Certificate Courses - 6 Credits Required
Elective - 6 Credits Required
Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements. University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate certificate at Ferris State University: - A GPA of 2.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
- A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
- A minimum of 50 percent of certificate credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program: - All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
- For students seeking a degree from Ferris State University, a maximum of 50 percent of the certificate credits can be from courses required in their program/major.
- A term prior to completion of the certificate, students must log into MyFSU and complete the “Apply for Graduation”. You will receive an email back with the next steps to take. Once this is done, the Graduation Secretary will notify the Registrar who will note the completion of the certificate.
