Master of Architecture

The KCAD Master of Architecture is a first professional degree in architecture. As such, its curriculum is designed to not only provide a well-grounded and unique graduate architecture education, but also meet the requirements for accreditation by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The curriculum design is a flexible framework, upon which each individual student’s personal practice of architecture will build. The Master of Architecture is designed to balance research, theory, and practice. It places a strong focus on design-thinking and design leadership, place-making and engagement with the community.

Admission Requirements

New Student Admission Requirements

  • The Master of Architecture program accepts students each year for the fall semester.
  • Graduate students admitted with a regionally accredited undergraduate degree in any discipline may study architecture for three years (90 credits) to achieve the first professional M.Arch degree. In addition, we offer a two-year (60 credits) course of study for those students who have completed a pre-professional degree in architecture. In both cases, the application and admission process is the same.
  • Evaluation of prior education is performed by the M.Arch Admissions Committee.
  • Current admission requirements can be found on the program’s web page.
  • Students on the articulated degree pathway from the B.S.E. in Interdisciplinary Engineering program at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) should apply for provisional admission to the KCAD Master of Architecture program during their 4th semester of study at GVSU.
