Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology helps students develop an understanding of how mechanical systems perform. Students are prepared to take applied engineering science courses including Statics and Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Kinematics, Machine Design, and Electrical Fundamentals, which give them a solid technical background for a future in technology. While most MECH associate degree graduates will continue into the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Some choose to pursue other disciplines such as Product Design Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or even Business. Students that earn this degree have gone into industry as test technicians, machine designers, production expediters, quality control technicians, and engineering assistants to name a few.

Program Outcomes

Apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline.
Apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and nontechnical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
Conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results.
Function effectively as a member of a technical team.

2.75 High School GPA (on a 4.00 scale) (2.50 -2.74 with college approval)
Minimum Composite Score of ACT 18/SAT 950, Math Score of ACT 19/SAT 500
Placement into MATH 116 or MATH 120

2.00 College GPA (on a 4.00 scale)
Placement into MATH 116 or MATH 120

First Year Seminar Requirement (FSUS 100 or Equivalent) - 0 to 1 Credit Required

These are the minimum graduation requirements for an associate degree at Ferris State University:

All requirements as specified in the University Requirements section must be met.
A minimum of 60 credits must be earned.
A 2.00 or higher cumulative Ferris State University GPA is required.
A minimum of 15 credits must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
