Graduate Certificate
The purpose of this graduate certificate is to provide a theoretical and practical foundation in nursing education for a staff educator or academic nurse educator role. It is designed for nurses who have earned a master’s or doctoral degree in another advanced practice or specialty area who wish to assume the role of nursing faculty in an associate or baccalaureate degree nursing program, or as a staff development educator within a healthcare organization. It is also designed for bachelor prepared nurses as a first step toward an MSN degree in nursing education. This certificate includes 16 credits of coursework related to learning theory, curriculum and instructional design, and evaluation. Nine of the 16 credits also apply to the nursing education specialty concentration for the MSN degree.

Program Outcomes
- Implement innovative, evidence-based educational approaches and assessment measures that facilitate learning and achievement of outcomes.
- Appraise curricula for relevance and outcomes that address inter-professional collaboration to promote culturally appropriate, quality care to individuals and populations.
New Student Admission Requirements
- Completed application for admission.
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree with an overall GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale).
- Hold licensure as a Registered Nurse; Michigan licensure or eligibility.
- Submit official transcripts for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and/or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Ferris graduates need not submit transcripts for coursework completed at Ferris.
- Submit a 1-2-page letter of intent stating your professional goals and how the MSN program can assist you in meeting your goals. RN to MSN candidates may submit their RN to MSN Service-Learning synthesis paper.

Notes
- Students who return to the university after an interrupted enrollment, not including summer semester, must normally meet the requirements of the curriculum which are in effect at the time of their return, not the requirements which were in effect when they were originally admitted.
- Credit Variance - Credits required may vary based on course placement, prerequisites, etc. If you have questions, contact your advisor.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from Ferris State University, students must meet both University and Programmatic Graduation Requirements. University Graduation Requirements
These are the minimum graduation requirements for a graduate certificate at Ferris State University: - A minimum of 6 credits within the certificate must be earned.
- A GPA of 3.00 or higher must be achieved for the courses within the certificate.
- A minimum of 70 percent of the degree requirements must be earned from Ferris State University to meet the Residency requirement.
- A minimum grade of C or higher must be earned in each course with no more than two grades of C.
- No more than 6 hours can be independent study and/or special topics.
- Degree requirements shall be completed within 5 years from first enrollment in a graduate course following admission.
- Each student must complete a thesis, graduate project, policy paper, internship, comprehensive examination, or additional course work.
Programmatic Graduation Requirements
These are the additional graduation requirements mandated by the program: - All requirements as specified in the All Certificate Requirements section must be met.
- A minimum grade of B must be earned in all certificate courses. If the grade is below B in any course, it must be repeated. No more than two courses can be repeated.
